Angkor Wat, literally meaning “Temple City”, is a massive temple complex located in a dense jungle in Krong Siem Reap, Cambodia is the largest religious monument in the world stretching over 162.5 hectares and represents the architectural pinnacle of the Khmer Empire. Built by King Suryavarman II in the first half of 12th century, is dedicated to Hindu God Vishnu, the protector of creation. The estimated construction time of the temple is 30 years. The layout of the temple is based on a sacred design of the Hindu Universe. The five towered temple standing in the middle of the complex represents Mount Meru, the center of the universe (a legendary abode of Gods in Hindu Mythology). The concentric galleries represent the mountain ranges surrounding Mount Meru, while the moat represents mythical oceans.
